Fall Into Reading

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/top ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists - so it makes perfect sense that I'd love this feature!

I really love creating my TBR list each season, especially when I've read every book on my previous list. Yep, that's right! I read every book on my summer TBR - minus one that I didn't finish, but I replaced it with another book on my list. So, basically, I count that as a success!

Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR

I've now read and loved three books by Liza Palmer, so I think it's finally time for me to binge her backlist. I dread the day I don't have more of her books left to read, but I just can't let these sit on my TBR any longer! Liza writes such well-developed characters, and I'm basically obsessed with the way she writes about family, friendships and life. Seriously, LOVE THIS AUTHOR.

1. Conversations with the Fat Girl by Liza Palmer
2. Seeing Me Naked by Liza Palmer
3. More Like Her by Liza Palmer

Alexa and I are working on a little something fun this fall, and it involves us reading these three books. I'm pretty excited about what we've got planned, and I'm read happy to read more fantasy. To mix things up, we've chose a middle grade, young adult and adult book. Yay variety!

4. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland... by Catherynne M. Valente
5. The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
6. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier

I'm not really a seasonal reader, but sometimes certain books just seem like they were meant to be read in a certain kind of weather. For some reason, mysteries make me think of fall! So, here's a review read, a book from my TBR and a book I've had on my wishlist.

7. First Impressions by Charlie Lovett
8. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
9. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

I mentioned to Alexa that I wasn't sure what my tenth book should be, so she chose for me! I didn't want to stop there, so I also had Cassie and Kelly each choose a book from my TBR. I'm really excited about all three picks! I've been meaning to read Alexa's pick for ages, have wanted to read Cassie's ever since we featured The Likeness for Favorite Factor and Kelly has completely sold me on this last series!

10. Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund
11. In the Woods by Tana French
12. The Boleyn King by Laura Andersen

  1. YES to Daughter of the forest. Marillier is one of my favorite authors and it's such a magical story. The girl who.. is a very whimsical series and I also quite liked The thief, I should read the third book soon. Happy reading :D

  2. VERY intrigued by this upcoming feature! All three are books I've heard nothing but glowing reviews for - definitely looking forward to seeing what you two are coming up with!

I don't remember - did you read Bellman & Black? It was my first of Setterfield's and I loved it. I know a lot of readers said her first was a lot better, so the second I finished reading I immediately went and bought The Thirteenth Tale. So looking forward to reading it and YES her books seem perfect for fall!

I'm curious what you think about Unspoken. I liked it (though be warned: it ends on a legit cliffhanger - middle of a scene kind of deal). I have yet to read the sequel though..

Yay backlists! Yay friends! My mom can't say enough about Into the Woods (she's a big Tana French fan too - you guys clearly know something I don't!) so she all but forced that book into my hands. Cold weather with a blanket and some tea and I'll be primed & ready to settle down with it!

  3. I'm currently in the middle of Seeing Me Naked and am loving it so far! I read Nowhere But Home earlier this summer on your recommendation and LOVED it, and decided to binge Liza's backlist too... I am moving slowly these days since starting a Master's programs but Liza's books are so fun, they take the stress off.

I am SO EXCITED for whatever you and Alexa have planned. Fantasy was my first love and I can see that's where you two are going. ;-) The Thief is amazing; I also read the second book in the series but haven't got to the last two... I want to so badly though!

Finally, I'm so happy to see The Thirteenth Tale on here... I think you will really like it, and it's definitely fall reading! A little spooky.

  4. Great choices! Fair warning though on your "future fun planned" section - Daughter of the Forest is one of the most beautiful and hearbreaking books ever. DO NOT read it if you're already sad. I loved it and have reread it several times, but it puts me in a FUNK for a few days. So it's amazing, but it's not fun. :) "The Thief," and the Fairyland books, however, ARE fun so you're alright there.

  7. I read The Thief back when it was first published, with only one sequel, and I remember that I loved it! That's about all I remember haha, I've been wanting to read it again and finish the series. And I think I've had Daughter of the Forest on my actual shelf for 10 years. Shameful. Really need to read it.

Curious about First Impressions! I'll be looking for your review :) Looooved The Thirteenth Tale! Ironically an ex-boyfriend was the person who lent it to me and I devoured it. Eerie, gothic, atmospheric, perfect for fall. I still think about it quite often actually. And I LOVED Unspoken! Just got the third book in the mail, I'm excited/sad to finish the series!

Across a Star-Swept Sea is wonderful! Super different and fun, have you read For Darkness Shows the Stars? And YES The Boleyn King!!! One of my favorite trilogies recently, such an awesome alternate history. I love her writing and story, hope you like it too :D

  13. I LOVED Liza Palmer's Nowhere But Home, and I'm hoping to read more of her books as well, starting with Conversations with the Fat Girl at some point. I hope you enjoy them!

  14. SO there with you on Palmer. I need to read all her work.

  15. Oh Hannah, I am SO excited about some of your choices! Unspoken is so nerve-wrackingly wonderful, and The Thief, Fairyland, and Daughter of the Forest are three of my all time favorites!! I purchased Nowhere But Home almost a year ago at this point...really need to read it.

  16. Listen, if you read The Thief, you MUST read the rest of the series. Do not wimp out and stop! Although I did love the first book a lot, the second, third, and fourth escalate in quality, emotional content, and surprises, and you would be denying yourself a great pleasure if you stop after number one. (I personally don't think I could have stopped there, but there are surprisingly many who are able to/do, so I wanted to encourage you to keep going! I particularly like the second and fourth books.)

  17. I'm also a huge fan of The Thirteenth Tale, and of anything by Tana French, so I think you have yourself some good times waiting!

  18. I've only read Palmer's Nowhere But Home, but she's definitely an author whose backlist I desperately need to read. Hoping to read Seeing Me Naked next, I think, but I've also heard great things about More Like Her. I'll be curious to read more of your reviews of her works.
And yayy for your picks of The Thief and Daughter of the Forest. I highly recommend both of them - two of my favorite novels of all time there. And The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland... is on my fall tbr list as well.
I hope you're able to get to many of these this season, Hannah!

  19. The only one of these I've read is The Boleyn King which I really enjoyed. I will say it's not necessarily that amazing of a book, but yet you can't help falling for it because it's such a unique take on a somewhat overdone period of history.

  20. I just finished reading The Thirteenth Tale, and oh my goodness, it was great! So much intrigue, surprise, amazing characters.. Seriously awesome well-rounded novel.

  21. I think that your Fall TBR is pretty fantastic! (And obviously, not just because I'm involved in some of those choices.) I'm glad that you've given yourself a variety of books to choose from! That always helps me when I make these seasonal TBRs because I'm definitely a mood reader ;)

That being said, I am VERY excited for you to read Across A Star-Swept Sea because I loved it, and I hope you love it as much as I do! And our little project? I'm VERY excited about that!
