Don't Miss Out!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/top ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists - so it makes perfect sense that I'd love this feature!

Listen, this week's topic is "Top Ten Popular Authors I Haven't Read." For some reason, I'm just not feeling inspired by it. I can think of ten authors, but there are often reasons why I haven't read anything by them yet or don't plan on reading anything by them. So, I decided to flip it! Instead, here are some under the radar authors I have read that you ought to check out, too.

Top Ten "Under the Radar" Authors You Ought to Read

* I defined "under the radar" as authors I feel like I don't see talked about often in the blogging world.
** I only noted by favorite book (or two) by the author, but many of them have more books!

  3. Great list! I was about to say I've only read books by Jennifer Donnelly but realized I have Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman on my Kindle and I picked up a copy of The Vintage Girl by Hester Browne a few weeks ago! I'll have to bump them both up the reading order now :)

  7. I like this flip! I've had A Northern Light on my shelves FOREVER and am super intrigued by Jennifer Connelly's new Deep Blue book coming out about mermaids :)

    1. I hope you read it soon! She is fabulous. And I'm really intrigued by her new mermaid book, too. I hope I love it as much as I love everything else she's written!

  9. Whoa, these really are some under the radar authors. I've only heard of one - Jennifer Donnelly. I have A Northern Light, and I've heard it's amazing. I'll have to read it soon.

  11. "There You'll Find Me" by Jenny B. Jones was super cute! I read it a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the story. I hope you get a chance to read it soon!

    1. I have read it! I decided to flip the topic and highlight authors that I felt were under the radar and ought to be read. I loved There You'll Find Me - glad to hear you did, too!

  13. I find it so odd that Jennifer Donnelly is on this list. I only say that because I think A Northern Light won a Printz honor. But hey, if you talking about it gets more people reading it, I'm cool with that.

    1. As I said at the beginning of the post, I defined "under the radar" as authors I didn't feel like I heard much about in the blogging world. 50 of my Goodreads friends have A Northern Light on their shelves but only 5 have read it - which is why I felt she still deserved a place on this list.

    2. See, I kind of have my feet in two parts of the blogging world--I run a book blog and a library blog, and it's possible I've seen this on some library blogs that you may not read (which is fair). I can see that yeah, this book may not have been mentioned on book blogs as much--it does feel like it may have come out before the rise of book blogging, if you will (at the very least it was out before I started blogging). However, it does seem like Revolution, a newer book of Donnelly,'s got a lot of reviews when it came out, so it seems like this one should have more reviews. I would have to look really closely to see if this one gets more mentions on library blogs than book blogs.

    3. Oh that's definitely possible! I know A Northern Light came out long before I started blogging, as did Revolution, so maybe Donnelly only seems a little under the radar to me because I missed out on the height on her popularity. I also read two of her adult fiction books (gotta re-read them before I move on to the third!), and I definitely don't hear that series mentioned that often. But I'm sure that's partly because I follow mostly YA-focused blogs.

She was the one author I knew was more popular than the others, but I'm always kinda loose on how I interpret TTT topics (seeing as how I flipped this week's anyway) if it means getting to highlight a favorite book or author. Either way, it doesn't really matter since, as you said originally, the point is really just to get more people reading her! :)

  14. Loved "Love Walked In" Read it last year & was pleasantly surprised. I bought "The Runaway Princess" but haven't gotten to reading it yet. Now I want to. With those two already in my bookshelf, I'm indeed curious about the rest of this list. Thanks for letting us know!

    1. I'm so excited that you loved "Love Walked In" when you read it. You'll definitely need to check out Belong to Me because it includes some characters from that book (although they aren't the focus). And I really hope you enjoy Browne - or any of the other authors on this list if you get to them :)

  15. You are so clever. I'm so glad you included Marisa and Taylor on these. I must must must jump on these. Saving this post!

    1. YAY! I'm so glad YOU read and posted about Forever, Interrupted. Wouldn't have found it without you!

  16. I really enjoyed all of Hester Browne's (although the Little Lady Agency got a little off script by the end of the series IMO) and Allie Larkin's books (you have to read Why Can't I Be You). I've always wanted to read First Husband but I've never picked it up.

I love that you changed up the topic this week, I'm definitely going to look into some of the other authors!

    1. Yes, I agree about the end of that series. It was disappointing, too, because I'd really enjoyed the first two. I remember thinking it felt a bit repetitive there towards the end. And I know, I know - I've GOT to read Why Can't I Be You! My cousin gave it to me for my birthday so hopefully I'll get to it soon :) Read The First Husband - it was so cute!

  17. This made me laugh SO HARD because I've never read any of these authors but more than half of them are on my list to check for at the library when I go and they're usually checked out. I DID grab the Taylor Jenkins Reid a couple of days ago and I have a Jenny Jones on my Kindle but otherwise WAY too many of these are on my list to look for and I almost have a track that I walk - the same track every time at the library. (I TOLD YOU I can get creepy and that's why I had to broaden my blog feed.) I'm seriously laughing out loud, sitting right here at my counter right now. (:

    1. Hahaha! YESSSSS.

      1) I'm glad they're on your list!
      2) Yay for contributing to your library haul!
      3) Pshh - not creepy at all.
      4) Report back to me once you read some of these!

  18. The only one of these authors I've read it Jennifer Donnelly, but I do absolutely love her! Although I've actually yet to read any of her YA books, I feel in love with The Tea Rose trilogy. And based on my feelings for it, know that eventually I really do need to find time to read the rest of hers!

    1. I loved her YA a lot, so you should definitely try it out! And I seriously need to finish the Rose series. I loved the first one so much!

  19. What an awesome idea for a list, Hannah! I've read Marissa de los Santos, but not any of the others... and I think I need to remedy that. Requested a few of these titles from the library -- hopefully they come in soon!
