SLIDER

Continuing On...

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/top ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists - so it makes perfect sense that I'd love this feature!

Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Sequels

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - In a dream world, this book continues and I no longer feel the need to buy every Austen spin-off that catches my eye. I'd save so much money.

2. The Opposite of Love by Julie Buxbaum - Although I love how this book ends and it doesn't need a sequel, I'd still like to see more of Emily Haxby. I fell in love with this book when I first read it, and it's only grown on me more with each re-read.

3. Holier Than Thou by Laura Buzo - This book is begging for a sequel! The ending is really open-ended. So, of course, I want more answers about what happens with Holly. What decision does she make? I MUST KNOW.

4. Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta - Technically, I'd also love a sequel to Jellicoe Road and more of Saving Francesca and/or The Piper's Son... Anyway, I think Looking for Alibrandi is the one I'd most love a sequel to because it has the most ambiguous ending. I'm hoping there'd be Jacob in that future.

5. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell - I'm re-reading this now, and I already know I'm going to be wishing for an official sequel once I'm done. I remember being so sad when it was over the first time I read it. I need to know what happens in Scarlett and Rhett's future!

6. The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - Honestly, I just want a sequel to this because I want to read more from Jandy Nelson. So, basically, if she just wrote something else that'd make me happy, too. But I would enjoy a sequel or companion to this book!
7. Nowhere But Home by Liza Palmer - One of my favorite reads this year, I actually really loved how this book ends. But I'd still like to return to North Star, Texas, and see what happens with Queenie, Everett, Merry Carole, Cal and all the rest of the gang.

8. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell - Another favorite read this year, I've recommended it to so many of my friends already. I know that it had such a great ending (that I loved), but I still have my grabby hands all over a sequel!

9. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith - Another classic that just begs for a sequel! I recommended it to my cousin, knowing she'd text me as soon as she finished about the ending. Sure enough, she wants a sequel just as bad as I do.

10. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater - I would love more Thisby, Sean and Puck. Seriously, I would love more time in this setting and with these characters I absolutely adored. And maybe there'd be some more swoons!

  2. I would totally love an Attachments sequel. Maybe I should've have read the book in 1 sitting. I'm also currently listening to the audiobook of The Scorpio Races and I love it! With the way the story is going though I can tell I would love a sequel.

    1. Yay! So glad you loved Attachments, too. It's definitely the kind of book that's perfect as a stand-alone but would also be really exciting if we got to read more about those characters. So happy to hear you're loving The Scorpio Races! It's one of my favorite books :)

  3. Completely agree with you on Gone With the Wind! After 1000+ pages I STILL need more. That ending was perfect, but I really must find out if she gets Rhett back. My TTT

  4. Pride & Prejudice is on my list too :) And though I didn't find Gone With The Wind as much to my liking as everyone else seems to have, I get why you want a sequel. I want to know what happened to Rhett too!

I've added a couple of books to my tbr from here (thanks!), and :o Nowhere But Home has my favourite font in it's title! That was unexpected :D

    1. Yay for Pride & Prejudice! I get why not everyone would love Gone With the Wind - there's definitely some troubling aspects to it. But yes, I must know what happens with Rhett!

So glad you added some books to your TBR because of this post! That makes me really happy :) And Nowhere But Home is FABULOUS (and I love that font, too).

  5. Great list! I made the mistake of reading Scarlett - the unofficial sequel to Gone With The Wind - and hated it! Attachments and The Sky Is Everywhere would definitely have great sequels, loved them both :)

    My Top 10 Tuesday!

    1. I am pretty sure I read Scarlett, too, but it would have been when I was in middle school. I think I remember thinking that it wasn't AT ALL how I imagined anything happening.

Yay for the Attachments and The Sky is Everywhere love!

  6. Great list! A P&P sequel would be awesome, about Lizzie and Darcy's marriage:)

    1. Can't believe you forgot Attachments! - 10 points for you.

Haha! Just kidding! And yay for Lizzie & Darcy, obviously.

  8. I just can't read spin-offs to Pride and Prejudiced. While there may very well be some good books there, I just am so scared to try it. I read Austenland last year and was sorely disappointed -- and that wasn't even a sequel!

    1. Haha! I have the opposite problems. I've read a TON of them, even though I typically hate them / think they don't even compare / get annoyed by them, etc. But I keep going back to them! It's a sickness. Haha!

  9. I see several on my TBR here. :)
    Great list.
And how gorgeous is this I Capture the Castle cover you found? Wow.

  10. I've had a copy of The Scorpio Races on my shelf since it came out, though I still haven't read it! If you liked it that much, I may have to give it a go really soon.

  11. Hannah I'm a new follower, I love your blog design, so simple but I love it nonetheless.

Scorpio Races has been such a popular choice in this week's topic.

I love Melina Marchetta she's one of my favourite Authors and despite not having Looking for Alibrandi on my list this week I do have one of Marchetta's books.

I also love Rainbow Rowell after reading Eleanor & Park, will get to Fangirl and Attachments very soon…I hope LOL

Lastly I'm really looking forward to reading The Sky is Everywhere, I had this on my wish list for ages and after buying the book I've still had it sitting on my shelf for ages, there's going to be a read-along soon so I hope to read it then.

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words about my blog design!

I'm glad it was popular - I loved that book and would love to have more!

Yay for another Marchetta fan :)

Yes, you must read Attachments. I liked it better than E&P, to be honest.

Hope you enjoy The Sky is Everywhere! I thought it was so lovely!

  12. Hm, I didn't realize that The Scorpio Races was a stand alone (obviously I haven't read it yet!). Thank you for sharing your picks!

  13. Haha. Even if there was a sequel to P&P, I'd still be reading any other P&P inspired book out there. I wouldn't be able to stop myself. :)

I just started listening to The Scorpio Races on audiobook this morning, and I'm really liking it. Although I'm only at the very beginning.

    1. Oh, I'm so like that! I love unofficial P&P sequels and can't resist anything inspired by Austen. Modern retellings, traditional sequels, re-imaginations of the classic itself (like from Darcy's perspective)... Hooked on them all!

Hope you end up loving Scorpio Races!

  14. The Scorpio Races and The Sky is Everywhere made my list too, Hannah! Because, you know...Sean. And Corr. AND JOE FONTAINE!! Sigh. I need more.

  15. I know it isn't an official sequel, but I really loved Scarlet. Not as much as GWTW, but I loved how it took the characters to Ireland. I also made the mistake of reading Rhett Butler's People, and absolutely hated it. There's a book where I wish I could take back reading, because I hate that I know associate it with my favorite book.

    1. Aw man! I hate when a sequel or whatever disappoints. I have read Rhett Butler's People, but I think I enjoyed it. Honestly, I read it so long ago that I can't really remember. I'm pretty sure I also read Scarlett but I think I remember thinking it was scandalous (I was in like middle school, if I remember correctly). I'll have to revisit both!

  16. (I wish I knew you were re-reading Gone With the Wind because I've never read that one! FAILURE OF A SOUTHERN WOMAN, right here.) But yes, great picks. And still, I fail.

    1. Haha! No way - you're not a failure :) Still plenty of time to turn that into a success!
