April: On My Shelves + Recap

Sarah Hearts
Oh, April. For some reason, I just didn't really feel like blogging (or even reading) much this month. I'm finally coming to the realization that I can blog as little or as much as I want. I know it sounds like a given, but it's really easy for me to get caught up in the "I must post every day" frenzy. Yes, sometimes I will have a post for every week day... but not all the time. And sometimes, I may just post once a week. I've decided to fully embrace a more relaxed attitude around here.

One thing I definitely did not take a break from this month? Buying books! I don't know what got into me. Maybe the spring weather got me a little too excited about spending afternoons in the sun with a book in my hand. Either way, I'm so excited to share what was added to my shelves in April!

  1. Awesome book haul this month! And taking a break is totally OK -- I think we all write better stuff when we don't feel like we *have* to. Enjoy those sunny reading days :)

    1. Thanks Christine! That really means a lot :) Totally agree that we write better when it's not out of obligation!

  2. Wow, what a load of books in April! I myself couldn't blog much because of my ongoing thesis deadline but I have been trying to post at a relaxed pace. I can never be a post every day kinda blogger anyway so why try. Also I just love the font on Gilt's cover. Classy.

  4. You are making me want to go on a nostalgia book buying binge, for real! There are SO MANY great books in your post, and I'm totally itching to buy all the Nancy Drew ones now ;)

But the one I'm MOST excited about is Scarlet! I love that series so, so much. I'm a total book pusher when it comes to The Lunar Chronicles so I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Haha glad I'm inspiring someone else to do a nostalgic book binge but I'm sure you'll be more restrained than me :)

I hope I love Scarlet, too!

    1. I know! They're all such pretty books - I'm actually kinda glad I had to "re-buy" them because I think the covers got prettier for them.

  8. I so want to read A Brief History of Montmaray, I hope it's fantastic.

And I love the stack of Nancy Drews - it's been years since I read any!

    1. I ended up returning it because it just wasn't the right time for me to read it. It reminded me a lot of I Capture the Castle, which is a book I love but it felt a little too similar for me since I read the other recently.

  9. Heck yeah Infernal Devices!! You gotta be loving William Herondale. :) You better be!!

Also..... i seriously, seriously love your love for classics! I grew up reading/watching little house and anne of green gables. I don't revisit them like I should, but I can always count on you to remind me! <3

    1. Woohoo! Hope I can convince you to revisit some of those classics - especially now that you've got two Baby Bettys! You better introduce them to these books one day :)

  10. One other thing you reminded me of..... I don't take advantage of the library enough. Granted, Jamie is like a library for me. hahaha but still... I think I purchase too often, when I could just borrow and then purchase if I reaaally reallly love it. Mr. Betty would be happier--- or at least his wallet would be. ;)

    1. Lady, I love the library! Seriously, start going more. I won't check a book out if it looks too used (or smells weird), but mine is pretty good at keeping those off the shelves. I'm trying to be better about not just purchasing everything. And yes, the Mr. (and his wallet) is happier for it haha!

  11. Ah!! LOVE the nostalgic book buying, I'm really kind of jealous and now want to sit down and read some Laura Ingalls Wilder and or L.M. Montgomery immediately. I'm hoping to listen to the Montmary series soon, and I've heard such stunningly lovely things about Nowhere But Here, I'd love to see your reaction.

  12. I'm SO EXCITED that you bought Scarlet! I loved Cinder, but Scarlet is just as great - if not better (have you read it already?!). And I really, really want to read Someday Someday Maybe, and not JUST because it's by Lauren Graham. Okay, maybe a little. ;)
