So Quotable: Tahereh Mafi
Source |
"I spent my life between the pages of books. In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction."
― Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me
Wow. Gorgeous quote. Really.
ReplyDeleteI know - isn't it lovely? The whole book is really great!
DeleteThis is one of my favorites! Really, I feel like I could randomly pull any segment from any page of Shatter Me, and it would be worth quoting. Mafi's writing is simply wonderful. ♥
ReplyDeleteHer writing really was lovely! I had avoided the book because the strikethrough thing was kind of off-putting, but I snatched it up at the library and ended up falling in love. Now I just need Unravel Me to come out!
DeleteHAHA, I wrote this:
ReplyDelete"This was one of my favorite quotes as well, though I could easily quote the entire book! Tahereh Mafi's writing is absolutely gorgeous <3"
and then looked at the comment before and it said the exact same thing! Oh well, it's true! Such a great quote!
Haha I love that! Too funny :) Completely agree with you both about being able to pick a lovely quote from almost any page. Such lovely writing!
DeleteThis was hands-down my favorite quote from Shatter Me. Up until that point I hadn't quite connected with the lead but this changed everything.
ReplyDeleteI know! I got to this quote, and I immediately stuck a giant Sticky Note on the page so I'd remember to add it to my quote book. It was just such a lovely paragraph - made me fall in love with the book and Juliette!
DeleteThis is one of my favorite quotes EVER. It's just such a beautiful way to express something that us readers can definitely understand <3
ReplyDeleteExactly! Mafi takes something readers everywhere can relate to and describes in the most gorgeous way. This quote solidified my love for this book!
DeleteTaherah Mafi has one of the most beautiful, poetic, and lyrical ways of expressing herself I've ever read. Even her acknowledgements in her books made me emotional. Great quote!
ReplyDeleteShe really does! I'd been really unsure of this book because the strikethroughs were a little off-putting, but I ended up falling absolutely in love with it. NOW I NEED UNRAVEL ME!
DeletePS - Love that you read the acknowledgements! I do, too. And sometimes those make me like an author even more :)
