Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Read in a Day
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/Top Ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists!
I actually read really fast, and it's not uncommon for me to finish a book in a day. However, I decided to limit myself on this post to books that I think most readers could finish in a day. And I was also trying to mix it up a little bit. I hate when you feel like someone posts about the same books all the time! So, I was reaching into my "reading archives" (aka the back of my brain) to try to pull out some old favorites.
1. Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver - I dare you to read this and not race through it. If you like Delirium, you'll love where the story goes in this one.
2. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I said I was going to try not to repeat books I'd mentioned previously, but I couldn't leave this one off. I'm sorry. It seriously fits like every prompt.
3. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson - This little road trip book was really enjoyable, and I finished it pretty quickly because I was so charmed by it. This would make for a really fun read one summer (or spring) afternoon!
4. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith - If you've been reading my blog, you know I loved this book. But you may not know I devoured it. For reals. It was so cute that I just couldn't stop!
5. Where She Went by Gayle Forman - This is a more depressing book, but it was still a one day read for me. I really liked the first book, If I Stay, but probably preferred this one. I loved Adam's point of view!
6. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling - I really want to be best friends with Mindy. So bad. SO BAD. I actually read this slowly because I was trying to make it last longer, but it'd be so fun to sit down with this and read it straight through in a day. Let the laughter commence.
7. Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - This book is sad. Really sad. BUT this book made secret hideouts and enchanted worlds seem like they were just around the corner, and I loved it for that fact. Who knows how it would hold up in my mind today, but this book used to be one of my favorites.
8. The Giver by Lois Lowry - If you haven't read this book, you need to get it RIGHT THIS SECOND. Before there was The Hunger Games and the dystopian craze it has left in its wake, there was this book. And it's really good. As in, read it today. In a day. You can do it!
9. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt - I remember being absolutely entranced by this story of a family doomed to eternal life after drinking from a magic spring. It has a quiet, sleepy feel to it that I really loved.
10. Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix - I have absolutely no idea if this book as actually as good as it is in my memory. Back in the day, I had some major love for this book.
Did any of these books make your list? What books could you read in a day? I love finding new things to read so please recommend any "can't-put-this-down-must-finish-today" books that you've enjoyed!
Pandemonium is on my TBR List. I just read Delirium and loved it! You have a lot of books that I need to check out. To Goodreads it is!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten Books!
Amanda @ Sisters Unedited
Haha yes - I feel like I'm adding new books to my Goodreads wish list every day! It's so addicting. And then I look at how many books I want to read and start thinking about how there's never enough time to read all the book I want to. You've got to read Pandemonium soon! It's so good!
DeleteI just finished Pandemonium and the ending drove me crazy! We have a couple in common and I definitely could've had Amy & Roger on my list too if I'd had the room for it!
ReplyDeleteI know - I was almost mad I read it because there's such a long wait until the next book! So frustrating! And I leave books off every week and everyone's lists remind me of all the books I could have included.
DeleteWe have a lot of the same choices! :)
ReplyDeleteOur Top Ten!
That must mean we have good taste in books :) Heading to check out y'alls list now!
DeleteI can't wait to read Mindy Kaling's book!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good! I tried to read while on my lunch break one day and had to put it away because I kept laughing OUT LOUD while in a restaurant. Umm... definitely got a few awkward looks haha!
DeleteGood list... I really want to read The Statistical Probability and Amy & Roger!!
ReplyDeleteAhh you totally should! They're both really sweet books. If you're anything like me, you won't be able to put them down!
DeleteNice list! I really really want to read Mindy Kalig's book!
ReplyDeleteYes, you've got to read it! It was one of my favorite reads last year because I love Mindy's sense of humor. I tried to read it in public and finally had to put it away because I kept laughing out loud.
DeleteYAy for putting Bridge to Terabithia, Tuck Everlasting, and Running Out of Time! I loved those as a kid I remember devouring them within hourse :) Great list!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten Tuesday post :)
Kimberly @ Turning The Pages
Glad you appreciated those picks! I realized recently that I tend to put the same books on my list every week and challenged myself to mix things up this week. I need to re-read those books soon to see how I feel about them now.
DeleteMindy's book looks cute. I haven't read Tina Fey's book yet, either, and I think they might have the same "feel." Great list!
ReplyDeleteLaura @ The Traveling Owl
I've read both, and they do have a similar feel. I preferred Mindy's book though because I like her kind of comedy a little better than Tina's. And Tina's book, while hilarious, takes a more serious tone towards the end that keeps me from raving about it. However, they're both fun reads so you should definitely check them out!
DeleteAwesome list! We have a lot of the same picks. And aw, Bridge to Terabithia! I think it might be time to reread that, it's been ages.
ReplyDeleteGoing to check out your list now! And I haven't read Bridge to Terabithia in forever, but I remember loving it. Is it bad that I want to see the movie now, too, so I can see a young Josh Hutcherson? Haha!
DeleteHi there, just popping in... I haven't read 'Delerium' yet... I really should start this series.
ReplyDelete:) Here is my choice...
Top Ten Tuesday
Yes, you do need to read Delirium and Pandemonium! But you might be smart and wait until Requiem comes out - the second book's cliffhanger is a doozy!
DeleteDefinitely echo the Statistical Probability pick, it's so adorable and Oliver is just so guh-worthy...love it. Same with Where She Went, it's just everything you could ever possibly feel and want and hope and need rolled into one irresistible book. And ohhh my goodness Bridge to Terabithia! I remember reading that when I was younger and just bawling my eyes out. I still re-read it about once a year because it's so beautifully tragic and tragically beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAwesome list!
My Top Ten Tuesday
Oliver is definitely adorable! *sigh* And If I Stay probably could have made my list, too, but I was trying to limit myself to my favorite of the two. Haha! I really loved getting Adam's perspective on everything. I really need to re-read Bridge to Terabithia soon! It's just so sad that I avoid it because I hate knowing what's coming.
DeleteI really want to read most of the books on your list- especially 'Amy and Roger's Epic Detour' just because it looks adorable and perfect for a sunny day like today! Hunger Games made my list- I defy anyone to read those slow!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://pocketfulofbooksblogger.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/top-ten-tuesday-books-to-read-in-day.html
I know! I defy anyone to read The Hunger Games slowly. It's seriously impossible. I just re-read and even though I knew exactly what was coming, I still read them so fast! And then had major Hunger Games hangover haha!
DeleteA lot of these books are already on my TBR, yay :)
ReplyDeleteTHG and The Bridge to Terabithia are of course amazing, great choices there.
My TTT was similar to yours in terms of books that wouldn't take too long, but I limited mine to even shorter books.
Glad to hear they're already on your TBR :) They are all really good books! And I have yet to meet anyone that has read THG and not loved them. SOO GOOD! I'll have to go check out your list now. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI agree with you; I love to see titles that surprise me. The Giver is one I'm happy to see that you listed. Wouldn't it be a different world if everyone had read The Giver?
ReplyDeleteCiao!
Here's my Top Ten Books to Read in a Day. Let me know what you think of my list!
I know. I don't think there is anything wrong with some books being on everyone's lists (that usually means I need to read them), but I'm trying to be better about including a wider range of books. I want to introduce people to books they may not have heard of before! Going to check out your list now :)
DeleteGreat list! I, too, read quickly, so I made my list the ones I stayed up all night reading because I couldn't put them down, haha.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten
Thanks! I have read SO many books in one day so I tried to limit myself to one's that I thought other people could finish that quickly, too. And I'm totally guilty of staying up really late because I'll get within 50 pages of the end of a book and just can't go to sleep without finishing it.
DeleteLOL! I definitely need to get The Giver RIGHT THIS SECOND as I'm one of those who haven't read it yet ;) And Pandemonium probably would have been on my list as well if I'd made time to read it (I really should, the pretty hardcover is staring at me accusingly as we speak). And I pretty much loved Adam's POV more than I did Mia's as well!
ReplyDeleteHaha yes, you really should! I think it's a really interesting read, especially in light of how popular the dystopian genre has gotten lately. And once you start Pandemonium, you won't be able to put it down. And don't even get me started on the ending. I'm glad you agree on Adam's POV - I thought it was such a good decision for that book!
DeleteI have been wanting to read if I stay and where she went for such a long time!! they have been on my TBR list forever
ReplyDeleteyoungadultbookhaven.blogspot.com
You really must read them! They're so good, and you'll probably finish them quickly. They totally suck you in and leave you wanting more!
DeleteLooove the Hunger Games and there are quite a few on your list that I'm excited to read. The Statistical Probability of Love looks so cute.
ReplyDeleteThe Statistical Probability of Love is SO cute! I look forward to seeing what you think about it :)
DeleteOMG I remember reading Among the Hidden in elementary school, I had no idea there was more books! I'd love to be best friends with Mindy too, she's so funny! I definitely need to read that one.
ReplyDeleteHaha I was a total sucker for anything by Margaret Peterson Haddix! I loved her books, and I still have my old copy of Running Out of Time. I thought the story was so cool! And I'm glad you agree with me about Mindy! Do you follow her on Twitter? She tweets the funniest things!
DeleteI love The Hunger Games, even though I can't read it in a day. Tuck Everlasting is also on my list! This book deserves more recognition.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten Tuesday
I completely agree with you on Tuck Everlasting! Have you seen the movie version? Thoughts?
DeleteAmy and Roger's Epic Detour sounds like a good book. Would love for you to stop by and check out my Top Ten.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's really cute! If you're in the mood for a fun summer read, it totally fits the bill.
DeleteThe hunger games is popular :p I'm busy with this one for the first time and I fly through the pages, so it's definitely one fit for this list :)
ReplyDeletehttp://thedailyprophecy.blogspot.com/2012/04/top-10-tuesday-5.html
Oh yes! The Hunger Games was definitely made for this list :)
DeleteEvery book on your list is on my TBR. Maybe I should move one up, I could use a quick read.
ReplyDeleteEpiphanyrenee.blogspot.com
Haha yeah time to move them off the TBR and start reading! They're all really good picks.
DeleteI can't wait to read Pandemonium! I'm a slow reader, but I just might finish that one in a day! I'm really excited for Statistical Probability too. I just got it from the library recently and I'm looking forward to reading it :]
ReplyDeleteI tried to make myself slow down while reading Pandemonium because I wanted to take my time and enjoy it... but I just couldn't put it down! I HAD to get to the ending and find out what happened. I loved Statistical Probability, and I hope you do, too!
DeleteI still have not read The Giver. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour is on my tbr list!
ReplyDeleteThey're good ones :) Hope you enjoy them! You'll have to stop back by and let me know what you think once you read them!
Deletei totally have that mindy kaling book that i haven't read yet. now i really want to go home and read it. and i am waiting for statistical probability to come in from the library. it looks like such a cute book. great list!
ReplyDeletemy top ten tuesday
Haha if you already have it, you've definitely got to start reading it! It's so cute, and I loved it! And yay for Statistical Probability - hope it comes in soon!
DeleteCan't wait to get to Pandemonium!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good! Once you read, we'll have to talk about that ending :)
DeleteAwesome books! And I totally agree with Mindy Kaling's book (and your statement that you want to be friends with her -- SO DO I!!!). I love Tuck Everlasting ... I really should revisit that one again. And I love the cover you have for it!
ReplyDeleteHaha yes I'm so glad you want to be besties with Mindy, too! That's a good sign :) I thought that cover was divine - and nothing like the ugly yellow cover version that I read back in the day.
DeleteI've seen Tuck Everlasting, but never read the book. I should probably change that. And Hunger Games is waiting for me at the library. Now to find a day where I have enough time to read it in one sitting without staying up too late...
ReplyDeleteHere's my take on this week's top ten.
YES - don't start The Hunger Games unless you're prepared to be its slave. Seriously, I could not put it down once I started. All other work (and sleep) had to wait haha!
