Top Ten Tuesday: Spring To-Be-Read List
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/Top Ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists!
1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor - I've heard so many good things about this book, and I can't wait to actually get around to reading it. I really hope it lives up to all the hype.
2. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - I keep putting this book off because I can already tell I'm going to love it, and then I'll never be able to read it for the first time again. But I really need to read it soon.
3. The House at Tyneford by Natasha Solomons - I came across this book because it was described as similar to Downton Abbey. I'm sorry but I must check out anything and everything related to my beloved Downton Abbey.
4. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - This book not only sounds interesting, it was highly recommended by dead white guys. If she likes it, I have to read it!
5. Looking for Anne of Green Gables by Irene Gammel - I've had this book for almost two years, and I'm vowing that this spring will finally be the time I get around to reading it!
6. Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran - I am so excited to read this, not only because I've heard great things about it, but also because I'm excited to learn more about this subject.
7. The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin - This has really mixed reviews, but I'm just so in love with the cover. I keep hoping that I end up loving it (some people have) instead of being disappointed by it (as some other people have been).
8. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - How have I not read this before?! I don't know, but I'm changing that this spring.
9. The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins - I've seen this mentioned by a lot of bloggers recently, which has really peaked my interest in it. I'm excited to dive in!
10. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden - I have had like three people tell me that I need to read this, and all have different reading tastes. I'm taking the hint.
100 Years of Solitude is really good! It can be difficult to get through, because a lot of the characters have similar names, and it jumps around in time, but it's worth it!
ReplyDeleteHere's my list: http://julie999.blogspot.com/2012/03/ten-books-i-want-to-read-this-spring.html
Thanks so much for the heads up about character names in 100 Years of Solitude! I always like knowing stuff like that ahead of time so that I'm prepared for the slight confusion :) Thanks for stopping by & commenting!
DeleteI bought Madame Tussad's not to long ago and I'm really looking forward to reading it mainly because I love Michelle Moran's books and I don't know much about the French Revolution so will be nice to learn a bit about that period in history :)
ReplyDeleteGreat choices!
Here's my Top Ten list:

Yeah, I'm really excited to learn more about the French Revolution! When I read historical fiction, I feel like somehow always end up reading about WWII so I'm excited for something a little different! Going to check out your list now :)
DeleteA very fine list :) Some I'd like to read, some I have. I own Memoirs of a Geisha, but haven't made it to reading it yet. Though I wasn't crazy about the story of Great Gatsby, the writing was fantastic. If you like classics, Lolita was fabulous. I absolutely love Nabokov's writing style! Here's my list: http://whatsontheshelf.wordpress.com/2012/03/20/top-ten-tuesday-10/
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the list :) I have no idea if I'll like The Great Gatsby, but I'm so excited to read it! Thanks for recommending Lolita... I'm definitely adding it to my wish list now! Thanks so much for commenting!
DeleteI have several of the same books on my TBR list, though not for this Spring, and I will be adding the Irene Gammel book to my list. Sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: http://bookishnerd.com/2012/03/20/its-spring-and-heres-what-i-want-to-read/.
I still can't believe I've had the Irene Gammel book for so long and still haven't read it! Thanks for stopping by! I'm going to check out your list now!!
DeleteI need to read so many of these as well! Especially The Night Circus! Everyone and their great aunt seems to love it, I'm excited to jump on the bandwagon as well! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I feel about The Night Circus - everyone I know that's read it has loved it! I've had it for a month or two, but I just keep saving it for later. I think it's finally time for later to be now!
DeleteOooh! Daughter of Smoke and Bone! IT'S SO GOOD! I hope you love reading it; it was a bit outside my norm, but I couldn't put it down. Great, awesome world building. Happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, from what I've read about it, it does sound like it will be a little bit outside my comfort zone. But I've seen such good reviews of it (even from people who don't typically liked this kind of thing) that I'm really looking forward to finally reading it :)
DeleteDaughter of Smoke and Bone, The Night Circus, and Madame Tussaud were three of the best books I read last year! Hooray! American Heiress and House at Tyneford are on my sometime-in-the-future-TBR (Downton Abbey love, of course) and if you have good things to say about Looking For Green Gables I might have to add that to my list! Great list!
ReplyDeleteIt makes so happy to hear that you loved those three! If you say they're good, then I'm even more excited to read them! Is it bad that I did a Google search for books similar to Downton Abbey? Because that's totally how those two ended up on my list haha! And I'll definitely let you know about Looking for Green Gables :)
DeleteI did the same thing! I think I spent a good portion of class a few weeks ago adding books that were similar to Downton Abbey to my TBR on Goodreads.
DeleteHaha yes - this makes me like you even more! I'll have to go check out your TBR on Goodreads and see if I've missed any good ones!
DeleteI've read many of these and think you're in for a real treat with Madame Tussaud & The Woman in White-- definitely my favorites from this list! The Night Circus and The House at Tynedford were also entertaining and fun. I just recently abandoned American Heiress because I just didn't really enjoy the characters or flow, but who knows... Great mix of titles-- looks like you have some great reading ahead.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm really looking forward to The Woman in White & Madame Tussaud. I've heard so many great things about both, and I'm happy you concur! I have noticed other people saying similar things about American Heiress, but I'm hoping for the best. I love the summary, but it sounds like the idea might have been better than the execution... I always hate when that happens!
DeleteI'm curious about that Anne of Green Gables book! And the one similar to Downton Abbey of COURSE sounds fascinating! :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your spring reading, Hannah!
Thanks Jillian! And I'll definitely post reviews of all these books so you'll know if they're worth adding to your TBR list :)
DeleteThe Great Gatsby! One of the few books I read in it's entirety in High School. That and Lord of the Flies, of course.
ReplyDeleteThe Woman in White has been on my to-read list for ages. It will happen one day!
I still can't believe I haven't read The Great Gatsby! I have, however, read Lord of the Flies so I'm good there at least :)
DeleteIt may be wishful thinking for me to say that I'll be reading the Woman in White this spring, but I'd like to so I just kept it on here. Maybe I'll read it and love it so much that I'll convince to finally take it off the to-read list!
