Thoughts on Brightest Kind of Darkness
I just don't even know what to say about this book. I bought it super-cheap on Amazon, which I'm quickly learning isn't always the best decision. The book cover says the author is an "Award Winning Author," but I'm pretty sure this was self-published so I'm unsure what kind of awards we're talking about here.
It took me almost two weeks to finish this book. For some people, that wouldn't mean much. For me, that's a long time to finish a really easy book. I just could not get into this book. I kept forcing myself to read just a little bit more, hoping that I'd become more involved in the story. Unfortunately, that never happened.
I don't really know why I was so disconnected from this book. The writing isn't terrible and neither are the characters. The plot even sounded interesting - a girl who dreams the events of the following day. I do think it needed some editing. In my opinion, large portions of this book were really unnecessary. I can't put my finger on what exactly bothered me so much about this book, but it definitely fell short for me.
I'm not a huge fan of paranormal-type books, which may be part of the reason I didn't care for this book. I also think it had something to do with the fact that there were a lot of ideas introduced that were just left as loose ends. And I was a little confused about what was going on at times.
I don't want to imply I hated this book. Honestly, I fell more into the "blah" category. I could have stopped reading and not thought twice about it, but I didn't feel like I had to stop reading. Because I didn't care for it, I wouldn't recommend it. But, according to Goodreads and Amazon, a lot of people really loved this book. So I'd recommend seeing what other people say about this book if you're still interested.
